Songwriting Lessons With Robby Baier

Are you a beginning or intermediate writer? Are you interested in improving your songwriting skills and getting hands on feedback and instruction from a professional? Come to a songwriting lesson with Robby in either a private setting (50/hour) or within a group lesson(15/hour) please drop him an e-mail here or call him at 413 274 9940.

What we might cover and do:

• What is awesome about your song, what needs work?
• Are you blocked? Here are some tricks...
• Why does the chorus not take off?
• Is your lyric clear or ambiguous? If it is the latter, do you want it that way? Is it ambiguous on purpose?
• The difference between a song that "just fell out" and one that has been re-written.
• Being specific and deliberate.
• You will have the opportunity to share your music with others (group session) and to get some feedback.

Requirements:

• Basic knowledge of an instrument (we have a piano here)
• Bring your guitar or other instrument.
• To group sessions please bring 5 copies of the lyrics you would like to work on.
• For a private session just bring 2 copies of the lyrics.

Note: if there are several people there we can't guarantee that we will get to your song. However, you will get just as much out of the lesson by watching us do a makeover on any of the other ones.

Free tip: If your song was a major motion picture and you had to tell someone the title and what the movie is about in one sentence could you do it? This is a great exercise and starting point in making the message of your song clearer to yourself and the audience. Once you have answered that question to yourself go over the tune line by line and make sure that you did not get side tracked somewhere. Does the chorus truly embody the title? Have fun creating!!!
